Nikhil Kumar provides research and consulting services to electric and gas utilities, merchant power plants and government agencies. His expertise includes development and application of advanced methods for electric system planning and dispatch, merchant plant bidding, smart grid solutions and capital asset management. Kumar leads Intertek’s Smart Grid business development activities and has hands on experience in implementing Distributed Energy Resources (DER) & Demand Response (DR) programs and integrating them with energy portfolio optimization for energy market operations. As the Lead Analyst - Utility Economics and Smart Grid, in Intertek APTECH’s Power Group, he has been working closely with utilities, system operators, regulators and research organizations to determine the incremental cost impacts of renewable energy on power plant operations and dispatch. Steven a Lefton is the director of Power Plant Projects at Intertek Aptech and is the original developer of the Cost of cycling analysis and COSTCOM, a real-time cost calculation code for power plants. He has been the principle investigator of all Aptech’s and Intertek’s analysis of some 400+ cost of cycling studies in USA/Europe/Australia and successfully testified to many public utilities commissions and in court as to their cost and validity.
