The Orbitform Group is pleased to announce a breakthrough product for fastening integrity, the Fastener Inspection System. FIS is a revolutionary quality tool that can identify cracks, defects, and mis-forms via pattern recognition. It also can indicate if improper force or torque has been applied to rivets (secured by orbital, spin, radial, or impact riveters, and presses) or other formed fasteners.
Ensuring rivet and fastener quality is one of the most critical factors in producing high quality, consistent fastening and assembly joints. By incorporating state-of-the-art CURE® technology (Concurrent Universal Recognition Engine memory processing architecture), FIS, provides an effective way to implement solutions, providing critical information to assembly engineers and business/plant managers. The new FIS provides real-time process monitoring and control to prevent face diameters and appearance from reaching unacceptable ranges. Simple to set up and use, the system is trained on the correct data signature. This signature is then combined with the visual inspection data from an industry standard vision system using custom crack detection image processing algorithms. The fusion of these two data streams allows the system to determine a rivet or fasteners condition both structurally and cosmetically. The CURE engine also allows communication between typically disparate data types, i.e. images and force/distance data, affording human-like inspection capabilities for subjective applications with machine speed and accuracy. A standard option on most Orbitform machines, FIS will also interface with many other systems.
